Phd Scholarship - Just, Healthy And Productive Cities

Swinburne University of Technology - Melbourne, VIC

Education, Childcare & Training
Source: uWorkin

  • Make significant research contributions to the field of urban transitions
  • Centre for Urban Transitions
  • Full time, 3-year scholarship commencing in 2021 – $28,597 per annum

About the Scholarship
We are seeking applications from qualified candidates with a passion for achieving sustainable cities and with a keen interest in quantitative systems science. This scholarship is intended to enable research on housing and urban dynamics arising from a rise in telework; or workforce transition, knowledge production and diffusion associated with a shift towards circular economy.

The Centre has a distinct role within the broader field of urban transitions and aims to develop actionable research for Just, Healthy and Productive Cities. This requires a holistic assessment of the social, political and behavioural influences and innovations that shape cities.

We expect that the successful applicant will explore one of the following topics:
  • Housing dynamics arising from the sharp rise in telework, and specifically to explore how households make choices to adapt now and into the future, and the implications on the bigger picture, including on environmental and equity outcomes.
  • Workforce transition associated with a shift towards the Circular Economy, to better understand the barriers and policy changes that are needed to transition industries (such as construction or renewable energy) towards new ways of operating.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Centre’s publication and impact program and aspirations and will join a cohort of PhD students at the Centre and be involved in its vibrant research culture.
