JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Opportunity

Due to a recent influx of students in the Early Childhood years, Parnngurr Community School is now looking for an energetic Early Childhood/ Kindergarten Teacher to join their team in 2021. Working alongside a dedicated team of teachers and Martu Teaching Assistants, you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of education programs for students aged 4-8 (Kindergarten to Grade 2).

The typical school day is structured around a combination of literacy and numeracy, as well as practical activities including arts and sports. Regular on-country learning trips are also taken with Elders and translated into core, in-class activities aligned with the Australian Curriculum. You will be provided with strong support to enable you to plan and deliver effective two-way learning programs.

To be eligible for this role you will need to hold a Tertiary teaching qualification and be registered (or eligible for registration) with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).

Additionally, you should have a recognised qualification, such as a Major, Graduate Diploma or Masters Degree in the Early Childhood, Kindergarten, Childcare or Primary Education space.

You will need to be a team player with strong interpersonal communication skills and a genuine willingness to collaborate with your colleagues as well as the wider community. A strong sense of commitment and resilience will be essential to your success in this role, as will your desire to deliver quality education programs for Parnngurr students.

Importantly, you will need to have an understanding and respect of Indigenous culture as well as an awareness of the challenges that are associated with desert living and Indigenous learning contexts. Graduates who are looking to make a difference and experience a new and exciting opportunity are encouraged to apply!

About the Benefits

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a remote Indigenous community. You will be supported in your move with relocation assistance and provided with free, fully-furnished accommodation, including electricity, as well as Foxtel TV and internet.

For your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration circa $65,758 - $105,048 (dependant on your level of experience) plus super and a range of other benefits, including:

  • Salary sacrificing up to $15,000 PA;
  • An incentive bonus after twelve months;
  • Tax exemption (to be discussed further);
  • Remote location allowance;
  • Two single fights between Newman and Perth per year; and
  • Great parental and personal leave benefits.

Although remote, the community is welcoming to all newcomers and is home to basic amenities including a weekly mail service, general store, community office and modern health clinic. Doctors and Specialists also visit regularly. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a 'mid-term wellbeing break' each term. This is a subsidised trip to Newman that gives you a chance to relax and enjoy everything Newman has to offer!
