About the Role

The Director of Learning is a newly created senior leadership position reporting to the College Director. Working alongside the Director of Teaching you will form the Senior Leadership team of the College focussed on achieving the College’s outcomes based goals. The role is broad, across course management, student management (academic performance, attendance, supporting students at risk, the progression process & student transition), developing the student experience and ensuring the compliance and continuous improvement of the programs.

Key responsibilities will include:


  • Work collaboratively as a member of the senior leadership team to achieve the College’s outcomes based goals.
  • Providing strategic educational leadership and input into planning, development and oversight of the University of Sydney Foundation Program,High School and Academic English Program

Learning and Student Outcomes

  • Oversee the quality assurance of University of Sydney Foundation Program and the Academic English Program and lead the educational day to day operations including line management of the two Program Managers and Learning Technologies & Data Manager
  • Facilitate program & unit reviews to ensure content & curriculum are current, meet course outcomes & assessment tasks meet learning outcomes, implementing recommendations
  • Manage the student at risk procedures and intervention strategies and monitor impact
  • Manage student attendance, retention, academic progression, performance and support activities and that they are recorded and monitored closely
  • Maintain good relations with Faculty Liaison Officers within the University of Sydney and organise the standardisation and moderation of USFP assessments.

Student Experience

  • Contribute to the delivery and development to the pre-arrival and orientation program
  • Line manage the Transition Manager and provide support in the on-going development of a transition skills program
  • Line manage the counsellors and coordinate the welfare & pastoral support of students ensuring records are kept & monthly reports are provided to the College Director
  • Line manage and support the Library Manager in provision of services to students

About You

You will be a person that thinks outside of the box, driven to providing innovative solutions. Working with Study Group you will embody a passion for education and learning and a focus on driving excellence in student outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Degree in relevant discipline plus a Masters in a related field.
  • 5 or more years of teaching in pathways programs
  • Knowledge of pathway colleges and the National Foundation Standards
  • Experience in leading and growing a team through change
  • Experience in managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships, with proven ability to collaborate and influence
  • Excellent organisation skills coupled with intellectual and operational flexibility
  • A learning mindset, with focus on innovation and continuous improvement
  • An achievement focus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Experience in the development and implementation of innovative teaching and assessment practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of Foundation Standards, ESOS, CRICOS and TEQSA regulations


  • Previous leadership role in a large educational institution
  • Understanding of the needs of international students

It is a requirement of all Study Group employees to hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check.
