About The Role

The Diversity & Inclusion Officer report to the Director, UNSW Diversity & Inclusion and provides a broad range of administrative and project management support to assist with the implementation of the Division’s strategic priorities.

As a valued member of the Diversity and Inclusion team within the Division, the Diversity & Inclusion Officer works across the university to identify, plan and support university-wide initiatives which promote equity, diversity and inclusion for students and staff. The role will have carriage of particular projects as well as work collaboratively with team members, committees and working parties. The Officer will provide EDI advice and develop and maintain professional relationships with external agencies relevant to their work.

As well as project management, this role will research, develop, analyse and monitor local, national and international EDI developments which support UNSW’s strategic vision and legislative responsibilities in the area of staff and student equity.

The key focus areas for this fixed term role include progressing the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, advancing gender equity and assisting to progress EDI in Faculties and Divisions.

Specific Accountabilities For This Role Include
  • Progress initiatives and identify opportunities which support the Division’s strategic priorities and align equity, diversity and inclusion activities between the staff and student cohorts. Consult, collaborate and form partnerships with student and staff leaders, student groups, Faculties and Divisions to further equity targets through identifying potential projects and initiatives.
  • Produce a wide range of high-quality written work, such as internal and external reports, policy submissions, recommendations / briefing papers and speaking notes, conduct training and make presentations as required (face to face and/or online).
  • Provide accurate and informed advice on equity matters including analysing and presenting statistical data to identify strategies and initiatives to support the achievement of the Division’s KPIs.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and project coordination support to the Director, UNSW Diversity & Inclusion including scoping and planning for multiple projects concurrently.
  • Provide secretariat support to relevant Steering Committees and Working Parties including drafting, editing and formatting Action Minutes and other documents as required, including preparing final documents for presentations and/or circulation


About You

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Relevant qualification and/ or an equivalent level of competency gained through appropriate training and/or experience in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion, project management and client relationship management.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, managing and bringing to fruition projects, policies and or/programs to enhance equity in education, employment or service delivery.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, and a demonstrated ability to use these skills in the preparation of reports, policy submissions, briefing papers, program documentation and planning materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, and also take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands in a fast paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to communicate the provisions of relevant anti-discrimination legislation and policy governing student and staff equity issues.
