The position is based in the Discipline of Chemical Engineering (School of Engineering) at the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan Campus within the new College of Engineering, Science, and Environment. The Discipline has a long history of attracting very significant research funding through leadership of an ARC Special Research Centre, Cooperative Research Centres, Industrial Transformation Research Hub, ARC Centre of Excellence, and large industry grants, leveraged by its strong connection with industry, and success in achieving significant global research impact in industry through the Jameson Cell and Reflux Classifier technologies. This research has attracted ERA 5 ratings in Resources Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy and the highest ratings in the Engagement and Impact measures.

We seek a Lecturer Level B or C to contribute to the research and teaching programs within the School, and to contribute to the research within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals, especially in the area of hydrodynamics of multiphase systems.

Opportunities will also extend to the School’s involvement in a new Steel Research Hub. The role would be expected to build a comprehensive research program through the securing of research grants, supporting the supervision of research students, demonstrating their independence, collaboration, and ultimately their leadership. This activity would be expected to complement high performance in teaching, community engagement and administration at multiple levels.

This position will support the core capability requirements of the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals, while also supporting the broader research, teaching, and administrative requirements within the Discipline of Chemical Engineering. The ARC Centre of Excellence, which secured funding of $35M from 2020, is a collaboration involving eight Australian universities, four overseas universities, government research and industry partners. The wider research activities within the Discipline fall into the broad categories of:

  • Particle and mineral processing and engineering
  • Resource utilisation and optimisation
  • Energy technologies

The Discipline contributes to the teaching goals of the School by delivering two Engineers Australia accredited ACQ Level 8 degree programs; Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Renewable Energy Engineering (Honours).

This is a full-time, continuing Level B or Level C position.
