The Education Support Officer, Indigenous Programs coordinates support and engagement for Indigenous Programs within the Faculty of Medicine & Health in accordance with UNSW Medicine's Strategic Plan and in consultation with the Faculty Senior Leadership Team and Nura Gili. This position entails complex and sensitive work in relation to coordinating and facilitating these programs. The Education Support Officer, Indigenous Programs is specifically accountable for the successful coordination and provision of oversight of the Pre-Medicine Indigenous Special Entry Program and for enhancing the academic success and retention of Indigenous Students within all Medicine programs and courses.
The Education Support Officer, Indigenous Programs, will work with a wide variety of stakeholders from across the University to develop and contribute towards Indigenous health-related teaching.
About the role
- Based at Kensington campus, with the Faculty of Medicine & Health
- $88,782 - $94,709 + 17% Superannuation + leave loading
- Permanent position, 35 hours per week
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience or extensive experience in administration, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, ideally in a higher education environment or Indigenous health.
- Demonstrated thorough understanding of the issues, directions and challenges in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history or extensive experience working with Indigenous peoples.
- Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people and other people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement, sensitivity and assertiveness in supporting students who are managing a range of academic and personal pressures.
- High level of organisational and time management skills including the ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and problem solve and handle highly sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other UNSW campuses, including rural clinical schools, as required.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the principles and application of Equal Employment Opportunities, Anti-discrimination legislation, privacy legislation and Occupational Health and Safety legislation in the work place.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW Medicine's Health 25 Strategy, and UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
