Salary Range:
$64,438 - $69,498 pa FTE
Reporting to:
Technical Officer Multipurpose Teaching Facility
College of Medicine and Public Health
Under routine to general direction the Technical Assistant will provide support to the Technical Officer within the Multipurpose Teaching Facility in the preparation and development of practical class sessions and facility operation.
Microscopy, wet laboratory and information technology practical classes across a range of health-based topics are conducted within the facility. The position includes assisting in all aspects of the coordination of these practical classes and the facility.
Key Position Responsibilities
The Technical Assistant is accountable for:
- Assisting in the operations within the Multipurpose Teaching Facility including the trialling, setting up and dismantling of specialised practical teaching.
- Providing support with the histology, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry teaching slide boxes.
- Providing support to ensure microscopes and wet laboratory equipment is maintained and functional.
- Maintaining a register of consumables and equipment and assisting in ordering.
- Assisting in the management of Work Health and Safety (WHS) within the Multipurpose Teaching Facility.
- Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.
- Completion of a diploma qualification with subsequent relevant work experience and/or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and training.
- Demonstrated experience with a range of wet laboratory equipment and molecular biology techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to set and prioritize workloads.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
- Demonstrated experience in using modern technology and analytical tools.
- Demonstrated experience with stock management.
- Proven ability to work under routine to general supervision.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health & Safety (WHS), in particular hazard management.
Pursuant to Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA) this position has been deemed prescribed. It is an inherent requirement of the position that the successful candidate maintains a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University.
