About the business

Napranum is a remote Indigenous community located on the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Cape York Peninsula. Napranum is 10 minutes' drive from the town of Weipa, 4 hours from Fruit Bat Falls and a 4WD journey to The Tip of Cape York.

About the role - TEACHERS

The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council seeks highly organised and capable teachers to join our team at the Napranum Early Childhood Centre (NECC). In this role, under the leadership of the Nominated Supervisor of the NECC you will ensure children are provided with the highest level of education as per Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Building Waterfalls (C and K).

General duties include:

  • To maintain confidentiality in matters relating to children, parents and staff.
  • To keep written curriculum and child developmental records.
  • To take primary responsibility for program planning and implementation and for supervising the preschool group at the NECC.
  • To carry out the policies of the NECC as Council prescribes.
  • To provide professional support, and cooperate with the Nominated Supervisor and the Educational Leader in maintaining high standards in administrative and educational programs.
  • Supervise the children in your care and provide a safe environment for the children.
  • Promote and show respect for the children and families of the NECC. This includes recognising and respecting the cultural and social backgrounds of the children.

Selection criteria includes:

  • POSITION 1 - Completed Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or more than 50% completed with completion due within first 2 years of employment.
  • POSITION 2 - Completed Diploma of Early Childhood Education or more than 2 years completed.
  • Ability to plan a developmentally appropriate program for individuals and groups of preschool children based on their needs, skills and interests.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and the ability to develop positive relationships with children, parents and staff.
  • Display honesty and integrity and have the ability to keep all NECC financial/personal information confidential.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Hold a current HLTAID004 (Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting) Certificate or be willing to obtain one within (3) months of employment.
  • Broad knowledge of employer and employee responsibilities under the Work Health Safety Act 2011.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Agree to a Commonwealth Police Check.

About the role - GROUP LEADER / EDUCATOR

The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council (NASC) is looking for reliable and enthusiastic people to join our team in Napranum as a Children Services Group Leader. In this role, you will lead a team in planning, organising and providing a caring, developmentally appropriate, healthy, safe and positive environment in a manner consistent with the vision and mission of the Napranum Early Childhood Centre.

General duties include:

  • To maintain confidentiality in matters relating to children, parents and staff.
  • to maintain observations and records of individual children’s progress, particularly those identified through staff observation.
  • To take primary responsibility for program planning and implementation and for supervising the Children Services group at the NECC.
  • To provide professional support, and cooperate with the Nominated Supervisor and the Educational Leader in maintaining high standards in administrative and educational programs.
  • Supervise the children in your care and provide a safe environment for the children.

Requirements

  • Completed Diploma of Early Childhood Education or more than 2 years completed.
  • Broad experience in childcare centres as a Group Leader and or Certified Supervisor.
  • Have a sound understanding of the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework and their implementations
  • Must have experience working with children aged (6) months to (3) years.
  • Ability to develop the Children’s Program (reflecting Early Years Learning Framework guidelines). Write up the program, co-operating with staff and Children’s needs.
  • Hold a current HLTAID004 (Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting) Certificate or be willing to obtain one within (3) months of employment.
  • Broad knowledge of employer and employee responsibilities under the Work Health Safety Act 2011.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Working with Children Blue Card.
