  • Located on the Camperdown Campus at the School of Mathematics and Statistics
  • Full-time Level B or C, 2 years fixed term with a base salary of $108K - $153K p.a., plus leave loading and a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity 

We are looking for a talented data scientist to join our team as a Research Fellow (Level B) of Senior Research Fellow (Level C) and work collaboratively on multiple grants funded by the ARC, and Defence. These grants aim to develop new mathematical models to address concerns such as optimal allocation of natural resources, social disadvantage and data-driven real-time analytics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant environment where collaboration between academia, industry and government agencies prevails. This position will assist in managing a program of research overseeing a number of small research teams. While some experience in the applied domains is desirable, it is not necessary.

About you

  • a PhD (or equivalent) in statistics/ biostatistics / applied maths, machine learning or a related discipline
  • proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (Python, modern C++ or R). Demonstrable use of other programming languages is welcome
  • expertise in mathematical and computational modelling of complex systems
  • a demonstrated track record of applying latest developments in statistical machine learning to domain areas
  • a demonstrated research ability in statistics/machine Learning, and Bayesian methodology and computation.
