An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Gympie Central State School. As the Head of Department (Curriculum) you will focus on improving Student Engagement and Wellbeing. Our students are commended on their behaviour whenever they are out of the school and always strive for excellence in every school competition they enter. We use two major strategies to promote student wellbeing Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and by utilising the Zones of Regulation. Both methods are designed to build student independence, self-esteem and nurture the student’s ability to work as team member.

About Gympie Central State School

Gympie Central State School is in the North Coast Region, located high on Palatine Hill in the heart of Gympie, easy walking distance from the main business centre. The buildings are traditional in design, though the classrooms have been opened up to allow for flexible teaching spaces. During the school's history, new buildings and facilities have been added to the original school buildings and we now boast some of the best facilities in the surrounding area.

Your Role

As the Head of Department (Curriculum) you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Providing curriculum leadership and management of a whole school approach to curriculum development, implementation, assessment and reporting.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Be futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
  • Coordination and maintenance of the school's curriculum documents.

About You

The role will incorporate a focus on Student Engagement and Wellbeing. The preferred applicant will have sound knowledge in the area of Positive Behaviours for Learning and an ability to lead initiatives in this area. The applicant will require the ability to develop self and others in:

  • Understanding of Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) principles and practices
  • Developing positive and engaging relationships with students who may demonstrate challenging behaviours, disengagement and attendance challenges
  • Understanding and modelling equitable and inclusive practices

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. For more information please CLICK HERE.
