Derby District High School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and motivated Teacher – Digital Technologies to join their friendly teaching team.

The suitable applicant will be a dedicated and motivated educator who has the ability to provide high quality digital technologies teaching and learning programs that are as diverse and varied as the needs of our students. Applicants should be well versed in the Western Australian Curriculum for technologies and be able to develop and deliver courses to students of varying ability levels. As a Teacher of Digital Technologies, you should feel confident in your skills and abilities to encourage student passion and appreciation for digital technologies by relating student learning to real-world situations and industry.

To be successful in this role, you will facilitate a learning experience that supports students to become confident, curious and critical users of digital and applied design technologies, as well as being creative producers of design solutions across a range of technology contexts. As a Digital Technology teacher, you will be able to value and appreciate that in an increasingly technological and complex world, students need to be able to critically analyse and creatively respond to design challenges and problems.

Specific knowledge and skills in the delivery of one or more of the following technologies is advantageous: understanding of computer hardware and software, robotics, aviation studies, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills, online platforms, engineering and design concepts, coding languages and networking. The capacity to teach one or more of the above listed technologies at an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level is desirable.

Derby DHS is located in Derby which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australian. Derby is 220km east of Broome by road and is 2463km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. Derby is well supported with a range of government infrastructures. Its location near the King Sound and a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities - but not swimming!

Derby DHS is located in attractive and well maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of just over 600 students it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal Communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park. 

Derby District High School promotes the "Stronger Smarter” philosophy of high teacher, student and school expectations. The successful applicant will be expected to support and promote positive high expectations relationships with students, staff, parents and wider community of Derby and surrounding Aboriginal communities. 

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Employees will be required to:

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
