The Senior Adviser, Autism develops policy and strategic approaches in relation to the teaching and learning of children and students with autism and complex needs. Projects are State-wide and generally of an innovative/complex nature. The position is involved in providing high level advice, services and training, resource development and delivery relating to the teaching and learning for students with disabilities and complex needs; including those with trauma and /or self-regulation difficulties. The position will also require a broad knowledge of behaviour management and wellbeing approaches as they relate to children/students with complex needs, including the role of interoception in emotional awareness, self-regulation and relating to others.

The Senior Adviser, Autism reports to the Manager, Disability and Complex Needs and will work collaboratively with other Disability Policy and Programs directorate team members and with other staff in state office, Student Support Services, preschools and schools and relevant external agencies and organisations. The position will develop effective support for children/students with disability and complex and/or health care needs and to provide support to site leaders; understanding in meeting their obligations under the Disability Standards for Education (2005).

Essential Qualifications
An appropriate tertiary qualification in education
Relevant post graduate qualifications in Education and/or related areas

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a current full teacher registration to teach in South Australia.

If not permanent with the Education Department, applicants must meet the department’s minimum employment requirements before taking up an appointment.

Minimum departmental employment requirements for teachers include recognised teaching qualifications and registration as a teacher in South Australia and, in addition, for all applicants who are not permanent teachers with the department will include an active on-line application in the Employable Teacher Register (ETR), a cleared Education Department Employment Declaration, Australian residency or current work permit, Reporting Abuse and Neglect training (previously known as Mandatory Notification), and an approved First Aid Certificate.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. A current DHS child-related employment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires. The incumbent will be required to undertake Responding to Abuse & Neglect (RAN) full day/online training course every three years. For all other Special Conditions please refer to the Role Description.

Remuneration
STL3 - $127,921 per annum
