The opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Retention, this newly created leadership opportunity of National Student Affairs Manager is being offered on a permanent, full time basis and can be based at our Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney or Melbourne locations.

This role will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and ongoing operation of three key areas, being:

  • Ombudsman function (grievance, student misconduct, etc.)
  • Student records management (HE and VET)
  • Student wellbeing
This will be achieved by:
  • Full management of student grievances, misconduct and escalated case management and everyday management of the fees remissions process to align with external agency reporting standards and processing timeframes.
  • Leading the development of the Office of Student Records management process and systematisation to support a strategic and robust operating framework.
  • Project management and implementation of a student pastoral care, mental health and wellbeing framework that aligns to HE industry frameworks and Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) wellbeing standards.
  • Analysing grievance case management feedback and make recommendations on strategic implementation that could prevent or reduce complaints.
  • Analysing Access & Equity students to inform and implement student pastoral care and wellbeing programs, allowing strategic reporting and implementation that support student success.
About you

You have strong interpersonal, consultation and conciliation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including students within a diverse organisation. Drawing on your people management experience, you are a motivator, coach and mentor to your team.

You are resourceful when coordinating workflows – finding the best quality outcome delivered in the most efficient manner possible. Problem-solving is a strong suit, utilising your highly developed conceptual analytical skills and curiosity to experiment new initiatives.

Qualifications and experience required:
  • University degree or related discipline or lesser qualification with substantial experience in records management.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of current legislation and compliance obligations related to record keeping and reporting for HE / VET within the Higher Education sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Higher Education setting, with focus on student grievance management, student wellbeing frameworks and TEQSA grievance and wellbeing standards.
  • A sound understanding of student mental health and wellbeing challenges, access and equity diversity challenges.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic leadership and planning experience ideally within the education sector with proven track record of delivering against key strategic business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer focus with a passion to assist and support students with a demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students in an educational context.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, advanced level in Excel for data tables and knowledge of file sharing systems including demonstrated capacity to report on trends to inform business continuity improvement.
