About the Opportunity


The Library’s Scholarly Communications and Repositories Unit is responsible for leading the development of the Library’s research services, research reporting, repository infrastructure. This includes developing services to support the management and reporting of a range of research outputs including publications, non- traditional research outputs (NTROs) and research data, the development of the Library’s open access programs, and underpinning infrastructure. The Manager, Research Reporting, is Business Owner for UNSW’s Research Output System (currently Symplectic Elements) and manages the Annual Research Outputs Collection. The position leads a team to coordinate the university-wide collection and reporting of UNSW’s publications and creative research outputs and works closely with cross-Library Units and with Division of Research stakeholders. In addition, the unit provides strategic reporting and advice to Library Senior Management, Faculty leadership and the Division of Research.

UNSW Library is one of Australia’s major research libraries, with extensive scholarly information resources, services and facilities. It serves a large population of academic and research staff and students on two campuses and affiliated research institutes. The Library serves 3 million in-person visitors and 20 million online interactions a year and features world class collections, services and facilities. There are three library sites including Main Library and Herbert Smith Freehills Law Library (Kensington) and the Paddington Campus Library as well as a close working relationship with the Academy Library - UNSW Canberra – Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). The Library is a department within the Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (DVCA).


About the Successful Candidate

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Current knowledge of the international higher education policy landscape; an understanding of the research environment in a University; and expertise in issues related to scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and research quality and impact assessment
  • Demonstrated high level communication and presentation skills with experience in drafting policy documents, briefing notes and reports for a range of audiences. Ability to analyse and communicate detailed and complex information including both qualitative documents (such as policy documents) and quantitative information including indicators of research performance
  • Strong project management skills, with particular emphasis on stakeholder management and achievement of project deliverables with a demonstrated track record in successfully delivering technology-based services to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good understanding of Library infrastructure and ability to communicate technical concepts to stakeholders, and user requirements to technical professionals. Experience with Symplectic Elements or similar enterprise CRIS platform will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
