  • Full time, 3 year position at our Hawthorn campus
  • HEW 9: $116,111 - $122,971 + 17% superannuation
Take the lead on programs and services designed to increase the participation of students from equity groups in higher education and to create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.

About the Job

Part of our Student Engagement unit, this leadership role is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of high-quality student equity programs and services which span the student lifecycle and involve close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The position reports to the Director, Student Engagement and is responsible for the coordination of the Australian Government's Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) aimed at increasing the participation of students from low socio-economic, regional and remote, and Indigenous backgrounds in higher education. You will manage a team of Program Coordinators and Project Officers who support students from educationally disadvantaged groups in their decision to choose tertiary education and in their transition to tertiary study. Your team manage strategic partnerships with relevant community organisations and selected schools as well as specialist access and retention programs for high-needs cohorts.

Further, you will provide strategic advice to senior management and key stakeholders in the development of strategies, plans and policies to increase equity and social inclusion and, when required, advice concerning the management of complaints. This is a senior role that collaborates across the University to ensure that Student Engagement delivers programs and activities targeting the specific development needs of a diverse student cohort, including those who have traditionally been underrepresented in higher education.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • Postgraduate qualification and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and expertise in a relevant area; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of a specialist unit with diverse and complex functions, including programs for educationally disadvantaged students
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Student Equity theories and frameworks as well as Victorian and Commonwealth legislation, guidelines and standards governing student participation in higher education, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, and privacy
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering improved outcomes and results for student equity cohort groups in a higher education setting and achieve objectives operating within complex organisational structures.
