Purpose of the Position

The Room Leader is responsible for the care and education of a group of children, in a designated room, in conjunction with other members of staff. The Room Leader is responsible for planning the programming and routines for the room and the individual children. The Room Leader may be delegated the duties of Person in Day to Day Charge (PIDTDC) and would be responsible for the operation of the Centre during that time.

Essential Requirements

  • Commitment to Council’s Mission, Values and Code of Conduct
  • Understanding of work health and safety (WHS) in the workplace and commitment to a positive contribution to WHS in the workplace and compliance with Council and legislative requirements
  • A minimum Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent qualification approved by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
  • Experience mentoring educators in a childcare setting
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and deliver a quality play-based curriculum for 0 – 12 year olds in children services with a focus on 0 – 5 years
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to children of all ages, in particular children aged 0-12 years
  • Demonstrated knowledge of The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and the My Time, Our Place Framework for School Age Care in Australia (MTOP) and the National Quality Framework and Standards (NQF/NQS)
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective partnerships to support the delivery of children’s services
  • Demonstrated computer skills relevant to an education and care environment

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working in a children’s service in a Local Government setting
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and their families
  • Demonstrated ability and skills to program for individual children and groups of children with additional needs
  • Demonstrated ability and skills to program for individual children and groups of children aged 0 to 5 years
