The UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health has an urban Indigenous health focus. It addresses two key challenges and concentrates UQ’s Indigenous and health expertise towards:

  1. Developing a skilled and available workforce, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to respond to the challenges in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; and
  2. Improving urban Indigenous health outcomes across the life course.

About This Opportunity

The Research Assistant will work on studies as they arise within the Poche Centre, including current COVID-19 research studies, and studies focused on improving urban Indigenous people’s health and wellbeing. The UQ Poche Centre is responsible for several COVID-19 projects due for completion at the end of 2021. The project involves collation of data from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as health service research on COVID-19 working with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.

The Research Assistant will have a key role in developing research protocols and ethics applications, community consultation and engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Islander communities. The incumbent will also assist the team in maintaining a culturally safe and inclusive research environment.

Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have completed a degree (or higher) with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. Strong experience in maintaining accurate records including data entry, extraction analysis, monitoring and data cleaning is advantageous. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of team and have strong organisational and time-management skills.

Experience in research or working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities is essential. You will also have the capacity to travel, as required, to regional sites for research purposes.
