The Opportunity

Reporting to and providing high level professional support to the Head of Operations, and through them to others in the Division of Research & Enterprise, you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of strategic projects and managing key portfolio accountabilities including researching, assisting with the preparation of relevant reports, and conducting data collection and analysis. The role requires working with staff across UNSW, as well as external stakeholders, to ensure the Division's strategic and operational objectives and performance targets are met including for reporting, governance, compliance, human resources, IT, finance, estate management and health and safety, and that strategic initiatives are progressing in line with agreed milestones. The Senior Project Officer will engage with internal and external stakeholders and provide assistance within the portfolio to ensure the objectives of the Division of Research & Enterprise are accomplished.

The Organisation

The Division of Research & Enterprise is responsible for the strategic research direction and overall research performance of the University and maintaining and advancing the University's profile in research and research training.

Skills and Experience

You have a relevant degree and experience, including strategic and operational management skills in a large organisation, preferably in the higher education sector, as well as:
  • Strong organisational skills and proven success in coordinating projects, including the ability to develop planning and operational documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and solve complex administrative problems with a strong focus on process improvement.
  • Demonstrated research, analysis and report writing skills, including literature searches, data analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and summarising findings.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high levels of customer service.
  • Experience managing a wide range of stakeholders and stakeholder expectations and demonstrated ability to analyse complex problems and develop detailed recommendations and solutions.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong report writing, documentation skills and ability to present complex material effectively to academic and professional staff at all levels, respect cultural diversity, and protect confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to interpret, summarise and communicate policies and procedures.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in a dynamic, developing area, both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
