Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences



The Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is a multidisciplinary research Centre committed to world-class research across the environmental health sciences. These include environmental toxicology, epidemiology, microbiology, health risk assessment and communication, and state-of-the art monitoring and analytical technologies to quantify emerging environmental health risks.


QAEHS is funded by Queensland Health and The University of Queensland and works closely with Queensland Health to develop its research directions. The Centre pursues research excellence through competitively funded research, as well as government and industry consultancies, and has a successful track record in interdisciplinary collaborative research with international and other Australian institutions.

About This Opportunity


An opportunity exists to provide a high-quality operational service to the Centre to ensure the sustainability of the Centre’s core research activities. This includes management of research operations, including identifying research funding opportunities, working closely with researchers in the preparation of high-quality written applications for grants and fellowships, and support of researchers for research management and financial management of research budgets.


The position will work closely with the Centre’s Executive and researcher team, while also linking with the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Science’s research team and the Office of Sponsored Research.

This position is located at the QAEHS laboratories at Woolloongabba, adjacent to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.


Our Ideal Candidate


You will have completed or nearing completion of a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of Environmental Health Science partnered with extensive experience or extensive experience and management expertise. You will have experience managing research projects, including obtaining ethics approvals, administering assessments, data entry, adhering to timelines and budgets, data management and reporting. You will also have experience with supporting collaborations between research and organisational teams to develop and operationalise successful funding applications.


You will have knowledge of the operation and management of competitive granting schemes and have demonstrated analytical, interpretive and high-level written skills, and experience with reports and research related documents. You will also have the demonstrated ability to understand and apply up to date knowledge of budget model/s and financial management strategies for research and consultancy projects.


You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply for this opportunity. It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

What We Can Offer


This is a full-time, fixed term position to 30 June 2023 at HEW level 8.


The base salary will be in the range $100,264.90 - $112,583.95, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range $117,309 - $131,722.
