Inclusion Support Assistant
JOB TITLE: Inclusion Support Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO:Principal
RECEIVES INSTRUCTIONS FROM: Class Teacher
PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist in the support and inclusion of pupils with special educational needs within the school
TERM OF CONTRACT: One year with possibility of extension
HOURS: Up to 30 hrs per week
CLOSING DATE: Friday, 19th of February
START DATE: As soon as possible
JOB DUTIES:
Supporting the Students
- To develop a knowledge of a range of learning support needs relevant to the school
- To develop an understanding of the specific needs of students to be supported
- To aid the student/s to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom
- To establish a supportive relationship with the Student/s concerned
- To establish acceptance and inclusion of the student/s in the classroom
- To manage student/s as advised by the Principal and class teacher
- To use methods of promoting / reinforcing the students’ self esteem
- To ensure the safety of the student/s while in your care
- To carry out any specific duties as outlined in the student/s Individual Educational Plan [IEP]
Supporting the Principal and Class Teacher
- To assist the Learning Support Co-ordinator to develop a suitable program of support and then carry out the program, within the classroom or in a withdrawal situation
- To maintain the Supervisor’s system of recording and monitoring of students’ progress
- To provide feedback about students’ difficulties and/ or progress to the Principal and Class teacher
- To write reports about the student/s’ progress as requested by the Learning Support Co-ordinator
- To participate in the evaluation of the support program, with the Learning Support Co-ordinator and class teacher
- To help adapt/ find differentiated materials to enable student/s to access the class curriculum
- To report any problems about arrangements or any incidents to the Learning Support Co-ordinator, or if unavailable, to the class teacher
Supporting the school
- Where appropriate, to foster links between home and school
- To liaise, advise and consult with other members of the team
- To contribute to By-annual Review meetings, as appropriate
- To participate in relevant professional development
- To be aware of / follow school policies and procedures
- To maintain confidentiality about home- school / student- teacher/school work matters
- To complete any other task as directed by the teacher
