Legal Services

Led by the General Counsel, The University of Queensland (UQ) Legal Services is responsible for the delivery of legal services to the Vice-Chancellor, executive management, and other key decision makers at UQ in order to support the achievement of UQ’s strategic objectives while protecting its interests.

About This Opportunity

Our Legal Counsel is responsible for providing advice on legal issues arising from the University's broad range of activities, particularly commercial and research activities, plus compliance, governance and policy. This particular opportunity works across our Research and General teams, as such our successful applicant will provide advice across all streams of legal work, from complex, to less complex, and dependent on the needs of our clients and business units. This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

It is critical that our successful candidate be admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, coupled with demonstrated relevant experience and expertise (approx. 4 to 5 years post admission is preferred).

You'll be highly capable advising on contract and commercial law matters, research contracts, plus a high level of drafting skills for a wide variety of legal documents. It is critical that you're confident handling and resolving complex legal issues whilst demonstrating sound judgement and commercial acumen. You'll be a highly adept communicator, with the ability to influence various interdisciplinary stakeholders and negotiate mutually favourable outcomes.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 8.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $100,264 - $112,583, plus 17% employer superannuation contributions. The total FTE package will be in the range of $117,308 $131,722.
