Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Student Support Officer to join our friendly and supportive team.

The successful applicant will have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and possess the qualities to promote excellence within our school and to interact with parents and the wider community. Ideally, they will also possess attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines and work well within a team environment. You will be expected to model effective and quality customer and administrative support service delivery and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work in collaboration with administration team, school support staff, our school community and teaching staff.

This role will require you to support the pastoral care of students and college along with the implementation of initiatives for cultural awareness and acceptance of all students. You will manage Aboriginal framework initiatives within the College and work within a dynamic environment that provides opportunities for staff to build their capacity within the education system. We are seeking to appoint someone who is friendly, approachable and culturally aware. Knowledge and experience in working with indigenous families is highly desirable.

Joseph Banks SC is an Independent Public School in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 40 kilometres from the Perth CBD. We serve students from surrounding suburbs including Carramar and Tapping. As part of our vision for the College students are included in a culture of excellence, innovation, opportunity and success. Our school develops students into knowledgeable and respectful young adults through challenging, engaging and intentional instruction. Students are given a number of pathways on which to excel during their secondary education, including both curricular and extra-curricular programmes.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  2. Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
  3. Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  4. Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
  5. Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to
  • Commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
