About The Scholarship

If you are seeking rigorous graduate training, and want to make a substantial research contribution to the economics of innovation, the Centre for Transformative Innovation (CTI) at Swinburne University of Technology is offering a fully-funded PhD scholarship in Innovation Economics covering all fees and a stipend to suitably qualified individuals.

The Scholarship Is Available For PhD Research In All Areas Of Innovation Studies And Innovation Economics, But Preference Will Be Given For Outstanding PhD Research Proposals Which

Develop/apply advance panel data econometrics and/or social network analysis using microlevel data

Focus in any of the following areas:

The link between science, innovation and economic performance.

Intellectual property rights protection and innovation.

Mobility of scientists, researchers and inventors.

The role of public policy and research institutions .

Social aspects of STEM education, using social network methods.

As a student at the Centre of Transformative Innovation, you will be part of a team of academics and researchers at the cutting edge of research on innovation economics using large datasets and advanced data science methods. Our Centre is the largest interdisciplinary academic research body on innovation in Australia which studies knowledge; how it accumulates and how it can be used to benefit all. PhD candidates will be provided with excellent research support from the Centre’s data scientists and collection of databases.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

Completed a Master’s degree in economics with a thesis component and 80% or higher overall mark or first-class honours undergraduate degree in economics/statistics/data science with courses taken in microeconomics and applied econometrics at an advanced Master’s level.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent (e.g. Pearson Test of English (PTE) examination certificate with a minimum overall score of 6.5

Enthusiasm for learning new research and data analysis skills and systems

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner

The successful candidates will also need to meet the conditions of Swinburne University’s Postgraduate Research Award.
