Overview of the Audio Visual and Theatre Technician

Reporting to the Director of ICT, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and support of a range of audio-visual systems across the School. The Audio Visual and Theatre Technician will ensure that the Wenona community continues to enjoy a high level of Audio Visual service and support both in the classroom, during assemblies, and in the School’s Theatre..

As with all professional services staff positions, this role is central to the operation of the School and supports student learning. All professional services staff have a firm commitment to their own professional learning. They support the values of the School and work together with the teaching staff to ensure the highest educational standards.

The Audio Visual and Theatre Technician acts in a professional manner at all times, maintains an open and effective communication style and has a commitment to ensuring quality customer service and training that is delivered to the School community through regular improvement activities.

Key responsibilities

Indications that this job is being done successfully would include:

  • Organising and assisting internal and external AV events
  • Supporting presenters when using meeting rooms, large presentation spaces and classroom setups should they require AV resourcing
  • Providing high quality technical support across a wide range of digital media, including the use of 360-degree cameras, green screens and audio loops
  • Ensures the Theatre is equipped and resourced to accomplish all goals and is managed in-line with Wenona’s policies, procedures and budget.
  • All aspects of technical operations, (including lighting and sound), physical operations, event and backstage functions are managed to the highest standards for all theatre users, with seamless service and support.
  • Involves dealing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to provide event management, technical and operational information about the Theatre’s activities and programs to maintain the Theatre’s reputation as the venue of choice for School and community.
  • Ensures the Theatre is equipped to be user friendly in classroom scenarios and respond promptly to presentation, performance and functional demands in the most efficient manner.
  • The ability to present and maintain a professional and responsible attitude in all circumstances, valuing issue response and resolution to the highest of standards. You will also manage a variety of temporary and contract speciality staff to achieve professional venue operations.
  • This position develops a positive set of relationships with School personnel and the wider community with deep knowledge of all School activities. You will be expected to provide direction, align work with the School and the Theatre’s strategic directions, build organisational capability, steer and implement change.
  • Film, live stream key events, and edit video content as directed by the Director of ICT
  • Manage and update wayfinding and digital signage systems throughout the school
  • Liaison with consulting and contracted AV Companies
  • Support out-of-hours events with flexible working hours as required
  • Documenting key processes associated with the role
  • Train key staff and students on the use of the Schools AV Systems
  • When required, assist the Service Desk team

Education and Experience

  • Audio Visual or Theatre specialist related degree, relevant Tertiary qualifications in AV or equivalent
  • Knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of theatrical production and the performing arts
  • Experience with editing video (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro)
  • Sound understanding of audio-visual systems, including Creston and Video-conferencing solutions
  • Experience supporting a wide range of clients with varying skill sets
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • NSW Working with Children Check

General conditions of the role

  • Award & Classification: Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2017. Clerical and Administrative Staff: The salary and conditions will be negotiated with the Principal depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Hours of work: Permanent, full-time Monday to Friday. Daily hours will generally be 8.00am – 4.00pm, although this will be flexible around key events.
  • Annual Leave: 4 weeks per annum. Annual leave should only be taken during the student holiday period. The School has mandatory closure over parts of the Christmas holidays and you will be expected to take this time as annual leave.
  • Reporting Line: All positions report to the Principal. The line manager for this position is the Director of ICT.
  • Professional Learning: You will be expected to attend and contribute to all staff professional development days and requirements as outlined in the School’s calendar.
  • Parking: There is no car parking provision for this role.
