About the opportunity

This is a newly created, permanent, full time opportunity, focused on enabling the delivery of exceptional student support, and driving students to achieve their study goals. You will be responsible for a portfolio of Access & Equity students and high-risk Student at Risk (SAR) profiles with whom you will build long-term relationships and provide ongoing critical advice, direction and support throughout their learning journey.

You will cultivate a supportive holistic student environment centred on regular engagement for the entire student lifecycle, by providing proactive, timely and effective advice and customer service that creates a positive and consistent student experience.

Key responsibilities and activities of this role include:

  • Managing a student portfolio of Access & Equity and high-risk SAR through set touch points to support a student’s success to graduation.
  • Evaluating and determining the support needs of students with a wide range of disabilities, long term illnesses and/or mental health conditions so the students can participate equitability in their studies throughout their course.
  • Onboarding and continued student management of Access & Equity students, the timely completion of Reasonable Adjustment Plans (RAP’s) in consultation with academics to confirm reasonable adjustments to support a student throughout their studies.
  • Contributing to multi-disciplinary case coordination to support a caseload of students with complex circumstances/needs and referring students to other internal support services or external services such as SAP where appropriate.
  • Supporting special consideration Access & Equity and anaphylaxis students prior to each semester to ensure class enrolment is secured to support a student’s medical or mental health condition.
  • Supporting and managing the student portfolio with student wellbeing frameworks and adjustment of studies that allow persistence with studies to reach successful outcomes.
  • Collaborating with the Student Services and National Manager teams to proactively benchmark, foster and facilitate student wellbeing strategies that promote the social, emotional, resilience and wellbeing development of students throughout their studies.
  • Developing specialised training manuals for internal support staff to support access and equity and student wellbeing practices that support inclusion are implemented.
  • Assisting and supporting the development of updated collateral for Access and Equity students including student handbooks, programs, forms, support collateral across multiple platforms to support the student experience as an inclusive, positive and collaborative process to support their medical and mental health wellbeing.
This role is being offered on a permanent, full time basis, based at either our Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, or Perth campuses.

About you

You are a strong communicator, with highly developed skills in influencing, engotiating, empowering and motivating people. You have a student service mentality and commitment to student’s inclusion through student wellbeing, counselling and supporting students.

Your training in Psychology, and/or experience with students in an educational setting that may be impacted by anxiety and/or depression or other medical and mental health conditions will support and lead your approach in this role.

Skills, experience and qualifications that will support you in your success in this role include:
  • A relevant Bachelor degree and/or academic qualifications related to psychiatric nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, counselling.
  • Qualifications in counselling or psychology with counselling, or Access and Equity experience with competence in focused counselling support, mental health first aid, mindfulness at the individual or group level.
  • Completion of, or progress toward relevant qualifications and demonstrated significant experience and/or knowledge of the Higher Education, social work or health and wellbeing fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide mental health consultation to students, crisis intervention and case coordination support.
  • A high level of understanding of Equal Opportunity (EO) principles and a commitment to the application of EO policies and diversity in the college context.
  • The ability to use CRM and technology systems and web-based organisational tools.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills demonstrating flexibility, to work under pressure and to meet deadlines, possess a strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Energy and motivation as a team player with strong personal drive and self-motivation.
  • A positive attitude and ability to relate to a diverse range of people with a strong customer service focus.
