About The 40K Foundation

40K’s mission is to provide world-class education programs that accelerate learning outcomes for children in developing environments around the world. Currently in operation in India and Cambodia, 40K, through its proprietary technology platform and the PLUS English language program, delivers high-quality English education at less than $1 a month to 3000 students and counting.

The 40K Foundation Australia is a non-profit social enterprise registered in Australia with approved Type-1 Deductible Gift Recipient status. The on-ground work is delivered through two subsidiary organisations, operating under the brand 40K Plus (www.40kplus.com), in India and Cambodia.

Our vision is to build a sustainable social enterprise that delivers on its social mission while also reducing its reliance on external funding over the long term. Currently, however, 40K is reliant on external funding to supplement income from program enrollment. Most of the funding today comes from Australia-based funding partners (Atlassian and DFAT) but we hope to be able to expand our focus and access funding opportunities in other parts of the world as well.

About The Role

The Head of Foundation role will be responsible for ensuring that the 40K Foundation operates with excellence, both in our internal due diligence and compliance, as well as in our external communications and interface with stakeholders. You are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the philanthropic and partnerships function, which will secure significant funding to support 40K’s education impact.

The Head of Foundation will build, strengthen and nurture strong relationships with the most generous supporters, whilst researching, identifying and cultivating new prospects to build an international pipeline with the goal of securing significant gifts and long-term pledges from the donor portfolio.

You will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team and also be involved in strategic planning, working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors and other senior leaders within the organisation.

We are looking for someone who has a growth mindset, and who will bring enthusiasm, intelligence, and energy to our vision. This person must be excited to work in a startup environment, believe in our mission and commit to our values.

This is a part-time remote role, requiring a commitment of around 2-3 days a week or 40-60% across 5 days.

You might be required to travel once a year to Cambodia and/or India. At this time, we are prioritizing safety, so this will only apply if/when international travel is considered safe.

  • At least three years experience in a senior fundraising role with successful track record in income generation
  • Success in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a philanthropy strategy

  • Attention to detail, dedication to quality, thoroughness with an openness to work in unstructured contexts
  • Interest in joining a startup which relies on a diverse set of skills
  • Humility and sensitivity to manage funder power dynamics while also preserving the values of the 40K Foundation.
  • Australian resident, preferably residing in NSW.
