Take the lead on developing evidence-based Student Success programs and services for our tertiary ecosystem to enable all Swinburne students to thrive in their studies

About The Job

As our Manager, Student Success, you will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of effective academic support programs and services, including University-wide services and initiatives, specialist programs targeted at different student cohorts, and intensive support for high-needs students.

The position reports to the Director, Student Engagement and is responsible for three core functions, namely Academic Development Advising, AccessAbility Services and Learning and Academic Skills Development. You will lead a team of specialist advisors and receive support from three Team Leaders who manage the operational aspects of each function, and are subject matter experts in their domain.

Importantly, you will provide strategic advice to senior management and key stakeholders in the development of strategies, plans and policies to increase student retention and success and to improve the accessibility of physical and online learning environments. You will also advise on the management of student complaints.

This is a senior role that collaborates across the University to ensure that Student Engagement delivers evidence-based programs and activities targeting the specific development needs of our diverse student cohort, including those who have traditionally been under-represented in higher education.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

Postgraduate qualification and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and expertise in a relevant area; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

Extensive experience in leadership and management of a specialist unit with diverse and complex functions, including programs and services for students with disability and those at risk of academic failure

Sound knowledge and understanding of theories and frameworks as they relate to student success and engagement as well as Victorian and Commonwealth legislation, guidelines and standards governing student participation in higher education, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, and privacy

Demonstrated experience in delivering improved outcomes and results for student equity cohort groups in a higher education setting and achieve objectives operating within complex organisational structures
