School of Veterinary Science

The School of Veterinary Science has a rich history having been founded in 1936 and has a well-deserved reputation for graduating self-reliant, independent and highly capable veterinarians with plenty of initiative and drive. As one of the largest Veterinary science groups in the Southern Hemisphere, its diverse group of academic and clinical staff contribute to animal science, health and welfare through innovative, practical research, advanced veterinary services and successful industry partnerships.

The role

The position involves teaching, research and service in Veterinary Science and leading the veterinary laboratory diagnostics and research services performed within the Veterinary Laboratory Services (VLS) group at The School of Veterinary Science. The appointee will be responsible for teaching into the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in veterinary science, veterinary technology and science. The appointee will be required to maintain a research program in areas related to the discipline of diagnostic pathology and or other veterinary disciplines and, to supervise research students and maintain partnerships.

The successful applicant will work closely with clinical and technical staff and researchers to manage the School’s Veterinary Laboratory Services and develop further laboratory research services and activity.

This position is located at The University of Queensland’s picturesque Gatton Campus. Gatton Campus, UQ combines its Queensland Agricultural College heritage with modern research and teaching facilities in veterinary science and agriculture. Just over an hour’s drive west of Brisbane and five kilometres from the local township, the 1068-hectare Gatton campus offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and world-class facilities.

The person

Applicants should have a degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent), registrable in Queensland. Ideally you will have advanced knowledge in diagnostic pathology, laboratory sciences or other related discipline, along with a demonstrated ability to teach students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Successful applicants will also be required to have evidence of clinical research experience including successful applications for research funding and have published research results in peer-reviewed journals.


This is a full-time continuing position at Academic level B or C. The remuneration package will be in the ranges of 

  • Academic Level B - $99,542 - $118,206 (FTE), plus super of up to 17%.
  • Academic Level C - $121,939 - $140,603 (FTE), plus super of up to 17%.
