About The Role

The Library Student Engagement Intern is an exciting position designed for a current UNSW student to gain valuable experience and launch their professional career in a marketing, communication or digital media-related field and are looking for valuable on-the-job work experience in an academic library.

The Library Student Engagement Intern will work with various subject matter experts in the Library and University to design and implement a social media strategy, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and broadly oversee the Library’s social media presence. The Intern will also contribute to the writing and review of student-related web content on the Library’s website. The Intern will work closely with the DVCA Student Communications team.

The Organisation

UNSW Library is one of Australia’s major research libraries, with extensive scholarly information resources, services and facilities. It serves a large population of academic and research staff and students on two campuses and affiliated research institutes. The Library serves 3 million in-person visitors and 20 million online interactions a year and features world class collections, services and facilities. There are three library sites including Main Library and Herbert Smith Freehills Law Library (Kensington) and the Paddington Campus Library as well as a close working relationship with the Academy Library - UNSW Canberra – Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). The Library is a department within the Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (DVCA).

About The Successful Applicant
  • A UNSW student in their final year of study of a degree in a marketing, communication or digital media- related degree
  • Experience in working collaboratively with others to develop and execute successful communications including assisting in the preparation of tailored communications and engaging with audiences through a range of appropriate channels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience using social media and in building a quality online following
  • Experience using social media analytics tools to gain insights into the effectiveness of campaigns
  • Knowledge of the latest digital technologies and social media trends.
  • Ability to represent the Library creatively to other students to improve engagement with Library services and resources
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video)
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
