Appointment Pool

We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the school year.

Peel Language Development School (PLDS) is an Independent Public School which opened in February , and provides a specialist service for students with a diagnosed language impairment, from Kindergarten to Year . PLDS accepts students from the Peel region, and is located across four sites where we share facilities with local primary schools enabling PLDS students to integrate with the host schools. The suitable applicant/s from this pool may be required to work at any one of our campuses located at Mandurah Primary School, Bungaree Primary School, Pinjarra Primary School, and Rockingham Lakes Primary School.

In , PLDS further enhanced its scope with the incorporation of the Statewide Speech and Language Service which provides support to mainstream schools within the South Metropolitan, South West and East Kimberly regions of our state.

The Speech and Language Officer is part of a team of Speech Pathologists that develop and support the implementation of specialised language programs for students with identified speech and language difficulties/impairments as well as ensuring that PLDS staff remain abreast of current research and program development. The suitable applicant/s will have extensive knowledge in planning for the speech and language needs of individual students, as well as supporting class and whole of school language initiatives. They will demonstrate strong organisational skills and work collaboratively with the Statewide Speech and Language Service. The business requirements of the Statewide Speech and Language Service may also be considered within this application.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Ability to provide specialised speech and language services and support to students with speech and language impairments and knowledge of the latest trends and research in speech and language development.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate language impaired students’ progress both individually and in the context of language/literacy programs.
  • Ability to plan, implement, monitor and review speech and language programs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an inter-disciplinary team in an educational and/or community setting.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports.
