Detailed Description

The School of Communication is recruiting for a Lecturer in Digital Journalism to play a key role in perform high-quality teaching to undergraduate and/or postgraduate classes in journalism and contribute to curriculum development. The position will be based at the centrally located UTS Campus in Ultimo and will report directly to

The (FASS) provides high quality, innovative programs of teaching and learning, research and consulting in the fields of communication, education and international studies, using a strong practice orientation with a focus on technology, creativity, internationalism, Indigenous research, education and engagement. The Faculty has two schools and this position sits within . One of the first schools of communication in Australia, the School delivers communication courses and research programs across traditional, contemporary and creative fields.

About the role:

  • Identify new opportunities and build collaborative relationships within the School, Faculty, University and externally.
  • An understanding of key issues in contemporary media industries, as relevant to Journalism and the School.
  • Utilise your knowledge of new media business models, engagement, audience growth, journalism product development, and entrepreneurial thinking.
  • High level social media proficiency.
About You:
  • Strong digital journalism skills, including Adobe Suite, data visualisation, base level coding, multimedia production, mobile journalism, publication platforms and CMS operation.
  • A PhD or Degree/s in a relevant area of Communication/Media studies and a teaching qualification and experience in Communication subjects.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching experience in journalism at a tertiary level.
  • Extensive editorial (reporting and editing) experience in mainstream and/or start up media.

Base Salary Range: $107,132 to $126,796 pa pro rata (Level B)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is part-time (0.8 FTE) and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
