The role

Deakin is home to three of Australia’s leading IT strategic research centres and institutes that includes, the Centre for Cyber Research and Innovation (CSRI). The recent Academic Ranking of World Universities placed Deakin in the top 1 percent worldwide for Computer Science. The new Robotics and Internet of Things (RIoT) studio has the latest in computing, robotics and cyber-physical systems. 

As a Lecturer, you will carry out high-quality research in Cyber Security as part of a high-performing team within the School of Information Technology and CSRI. You will incorporate innovative and agile methodologies to ensure high-quality training of future technology leaders.

We run large industry capstone projects for all our students, which requires outstanding candidates who can communicate well with key stakeholders within the industry. We focus on tangible research outcomes with real impact and connection to society. This role will contribute to creating those links for our students and industry and achieve graduate employment.

The role of Lecturer in Cyber and Networking Security will report to the Head of School, School of Information Technology.

This is a full-time ongoing role based in our Geelong, Waurn Ponds campus. Geelong is Victoria’s largest provincial city, located one-hour’s drive south west of Melbourne city. To be successful, you will have:

  • PhD in Cyber Security or related field
  • Demonstrable academic leadership and professional expertise in the field of cyber security
  • A track record of publications in highly ranked international academic journals, relative to opportunity
  • A record of excellent achievement in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Demonstrated ability to manage industry-based student projects to deliver high quality learning outcomes as well as industry outcomes

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Be part of cyber security research projects, including internal and external collaboration to create new insights and opportunities and work on projects within CSRI.
  • Undertake a well-defined research program in cyber security that will result in high-quality research outputs (including publications), attract external funding and lead to demonstrable impact.
  • teach across all levels and modes (including for example in the cloud and in practical/studio settings) with an emerging reputation at the national level
  • design and implement best practice assessment and evidence of student learning outcomes at Unit and Course level, and lead assessment panels
  • research and publish in learning and teaching, including testing the effectiveness of innovations designed to improve student and graduate outcomes including graduate employment
