The Opportunity:

The Vice Chancellor is the principal academic officer of Torrens University and Think Education and provides academic leadership to both institutions. The Vice Chancellor is responsible for leading and managing the University’s academic affairs, shaping, articulating and implementing the University’s strategic objectives in research and learning and teaching.

The Vice Chancellor represents the University externally, both within Australia and internationally.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Build research excellence to the highest international standards, focusing on achieving critical mass and concentration in research disciplines
  • Provide the highest quality teaching and learning environment, responding innovatively to the changing needs of students.
  • Ensure critical relationships with key academic stakeholders, including senior executives, staff and students, and alumni, are maintained and enhanced.
  • Work with, and maintain the confidence of, the University Governing Board to ensure the highest standards of scholarship are promoted and maintained.
  • Create, implement and guide institution wide strategies in the area of research, learning and teaching and student outcomes. This will also include leading the review of strategies and the assessment of their effectiveness.
  • Lead robust academic workforce planning including: succession pipeline, high potential/talent identification, capability management and mitigating resource sufficiency risks
  • Provide strong collaborative business partnering, academic and organisational leadership to CEO, Board(s), Vertical General Managers, Senior Academic Leaders, Vertical and Operational Leadership Team peers and academic community of Laureate Australia to ensure business continuity and growth to successfully drive organisational performance against key performance objectives and Torrens University and Laureate Australia and New Zealand’s long term strategy
  • Chair and convene the Australian Senior Academic Leadership team meeting and provide oversight and academic leadership
  • Ensure that the highest standards of excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and research are promoted as well as a culture of transparency

Experience:

  • Doctorate degree
  • Substantial and progressive experience in higher education leadership, including appointments at the most senior levels (Pro – Vice Chancellor, Dean)
  • Experience to manage research and achieve excellent research outcomes
  • Exposure to the best in class academic practices and knowledge of academic governance
  • Deep knowledge of higher education in Australia and internationally
  • Expertise in issues of student learning and success, including modern pedagogy, technology enhanced learning, and adult learning
