About the Role

Our Education Support and Therapy Services team has multiple opportunities for experienced Teachers at Early Childhood or Primary or Special Education level, who would be interested in joining a team of allied health professionals and registered teachers primarily providing quality early intervention group programs based at our Brighton site, to address the needs of children on the spectrum and their families and caregivers. 

Opportunities are offered on a permanent part-time basis at 3-4 days per week.

  • Work within a transdisciplinary team to provide quality early intervention group programs addressing the individualised support needs of children on the spectrum and their families and caregivers
  • Fulfil the role of Key Worker, acting as the main point of contact for families to coordinate therapy and education support for children attending the Early Childhood Intervention group program
  • Work collaboratively with the Early Childhood Intervention team to ensure therapy and support goals and strategies are embedded within children’s everyday routines and to incorporate early childhood education practices to support transition to mainstream settings
  • Lead, support and provide effective performance management of Program Assistant direct reports
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure their participation in goal setting, planning, decision making and reporting
  • Prepare and maintain assessment, observation, meeting, service data and progress records as required
  • Provide consultative support through face to face meetings, telephone consultation, and web conferencing and training and information in the area of ASD for educators, parents, other professionals and support staff
Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary degree-equivalent qualification in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education or Special Education.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Teacher, preferably in Early Childhood or Special Education 
  • Demonstrated understanding of and proven experience in implementing contemporary methodologies in education and positive behaviour support for children on the autism spectrum or other developmental challenges, and their families
  • Proven knowledge of child development and learning
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the design and implementation of direct (individual and/or group) and consultation-based support and intervention which is responsive to the individual needs of children/young people, their families, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families and professionals in addressing the additional needs of children and young people on the autism spectrum or other disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an inter-disciplinary and/or trans-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, professionals and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing
Special Conditions
  • Current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (in order to be able to provide NDIS-related services)
  • Current open driver’s license
  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes when an AQ pool vehicle is not available
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold a current, recognized Provide First Aid qualification
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold and maintain at their own expense, a current Criminal History Screening Card/s or relevant Exemption Card
  • Certificate of Completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality Safety and You" (AQ can facilitate this for you)
