A Teacher of the Deaf is required for St Mary's College Tarneit Campus. St Mary's College is prep to year 12 specialist school providing educational programs within many quality Catholic schools across Melbourne. The Tarneit campus is located within Thomas Carr College. The Teacher of the Deaf will be based at Thomas Carr College, working in partnership with teachers at the the school, creating a supportive learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students. A focus on success through explicit teaching to assigned students is paramount. Improving student outcomes is achieved through our focus on teacher collaboration, being data informed and using evidenced-based best practice. A comprehensive wellbeing program following Positive Behaviours for Learning enhances our vision of Independence, Inclusion, Empowerment and Resilience within each student.

About the role

• Take responsibility for a group of DHH students including planning interventions and delivering teaching in targeted areas

• Identify and respond to the social and emotional needs of DHH students

• Liaise with families, allied professionals and teachers of Thomas Carr College on student engagement, adjustments, assessment and reporting

• Optimise listening conditions across the College

• Following the PBL framework and participating in professional learning teams

Qualification and Requirements

• Professional qualifications in the Education of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (or a willingness to undertake appropriate training).

• Registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
