SPORT AT ST MARGARET’S
St Margaret’s has a long, proud history of women in sport. The school was one of three founding members of the Queensland Girls’ Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) in 1908, an association that continues today. The primary school is a member of the Andrew’s Cup Competition. As testament to the school’s commitment to the sporting program at the school, in 2020 the school’s sports precinct was completed and opened. This world class facility incorporates a water polo sized heated swimming pool with two 50m lanes, tennis courts with lights, gymnasium with an oak sprung floor, a strength and conditioning gym, an indoor climbing wall featuring seven belay stations and 76m2 of climbing, a dedicated ergometer room to support rowing and modern health and physical education classrooms.
THE ROLE - ATHLETICS COACHES 2021
St Margaret's has a long history of success in athletics. Participation and interest in this sport has resulted in St Margaret's becoming one of the most successful schools within the QGSSSA competition and in state and national competitions. This athletics season runs from May to September.
The athletics program is coordinated by Teacher Coordinators, a Lead Coach and a number of Coaches. Coaches lead four training sessions per week. The QGSSSA competition is held in September at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC), Nathan. Competition meets will be held on Friday evenings from mid-August to September at The University of Queensland (St Lucia Campus) or QSAC (Nathan).
We are currently seeking specialist Athletics Sports Coaches for the 2021 Track and Field Athletics season:
Coaches - The role of coach is to deliver coaching sessions developed by the Lead Coach and which encourage students in skill and technique development. To view the position description please see attachment.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
You will be an experienced and qualified coach who has a proven ability to develop young Athletes’ techniques and skills, and instil a passion for the sport.
- All coaches must have, or be working towards, a minimum Athletics Australia – Level 1 Coaching or Australian Track and Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) Foundation Course accreditation. Further National or recognised accreditation will be highly regarded.
- Previous coaching experience.
- Experience in athletic disciplines.
- A working with children blue card or exemption card.
- A current first aid and CPR certificate.
- Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
