The Disability Services and Support Branch is seeking to appoint a highly dedicated individual to be part of a dedicated and visionary team in the role of Principal Consultant – Student Support.

As Principal consultant – Student Support, you will be providing leadership and expertise in projects of national and state significance to improve outcomes for students with disability. Project areas include National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Nationally consistent Collection of data on school students with disability (NCCD) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Applicants should be flexible, able to work both collaboratively and independently and be able to contribute to the work of the branch in a range of areas to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will provide support for schools through evidence based approaches to design, deliver and facilitate professional and online learning as well as provide strategic advice and planning. Undertaking research and systematic analysis of student, school and system level data to improve processes, inform targeting of services and support and evaluate initiatives and impacts is an important part of the role.

As part of the Student Services Support Directorate, the Disability Services and Support Branch works collaboratively with other directorates and all other functions of Statewide Services, to support the successful outcomes of students with disability. The successful applicant will therefore possess highly developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to successfully undertake high–level consultations, collaborations and negotiations with stakeholders and be responsible for the preparation of responses related to policy and processes for students with disability.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to student support services.
  2. Skills and experience in developing and implementing successful student programs, projects or strategies at the school, region, network and/or system level.
  3. Ability to provide leadership and influence change related to student support services.
  4. Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
  5. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders.
  6. Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and professional learning documentation.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
