Lesmurdie Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Deputy Principal to the school Executive Team, to lead staff to provide an exemplary education for all our students to thrive in a nurturing environment.

In collaboration with the Principal and school Executive team, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community, promoting the school’s vision and strategic directions to support the school’s Business Plan. You will use highly effective change management strategies to support the school improvement agenda, continually reflecting and reviewing school processes and procedures.

As a member of the school’s Executive Team you will be expected to communicate the school’s Business Plan through your vision for success whilst inspiring and motivating others to innovate improvement strategies leading to pathways of success.

The role will focus on leading a Student Support Team for Years 7 – 9 students. This includes meeting the needs of students at educational risk and working with external agencies to support all students. A proven ability to plan and deliver outcome driven interventions for tiers of students that result in high levels of success would be highly desirable as well as experience in functional behaviour analysis and trauma informed practice.

You will strategically lead the schools highly successful and recognised Specialist Maths and Science (LEAP) Program, focusing on data informed review and improvements to incorporate STEM, Industry Education Partnerships and innovative practices, to further enrich the opportunities and pathways for students.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a deep knowledge of instructional leadership and understanding of contemporary pedagogy, you will demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities and possess high level professional knowledge, to drive a whole school improvement agenda.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.


Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
